There isn't much to first aid for strokes. This is a medical emergency and requires immediate medical attention. Every second in a stroke counts.

Brain cells begin to die in within 4 minutes of the beginnings of a stroke.

First Aid Treatment

  • Call an ambulance immediately. Call 911. The quicker you can get to medical attention the great your chance of survival and it may reduce disability after the stroke. There are two types of stroke one is treated with clot-busting drugs the other requires surgery.
  • DO NOT wait to see if the symptoms go away.
  • DO NOT drive yourself to the hospital or wait for a ride.
  • DO NOT take aspirin. This will be given later if needed.
