First Aid for Shock
First aid for shock needs to be quick. Shock occurs as the result of a trauma. Even a minor fall can result in shock. Other events include allergic reactions, heatstroke and poisoning. In some cases shock can be more dangerous than the injury itself.

Symptoms
- Cold, clammy skin.
- Dilated pupils. Staring eyes, unable to focus or concentrate.
- Pulse rapid and weak.
- Breathing shallow and slow.
- Person can be overly excited and anxious.
- Conscious or unconscious.
First Aid Treatment
- Dial 911 or your local emergency services.
- Lie the person down and elevate their feet higher than their head. DO NOT do this if you suspect a spinal injury or if doing so causes the patient any pain.
- Check patient's breathing.
If they are not breathing begin CPR immediately.
- Loosen any tight clothing. If possible cover person in a blanket.
- If they vomit turn their head to the side to prevent choking.
- DO NOT give them anything to drink even if they complain of thirst.
