First Aid Kit Checklist

You've put it off long enough. Now it's time to build a comprehensive first aid kit checklist. You don't have to get all of the supplies at once and it doesn't have to cost a lot of time or money.

What type of kit you put together depending on your life style.

You might need a kit that helps with three kids, four dogs and two fish. Maybe you're an urban dweller with a passion for off-road biking or a salesman who pretty much lives in his car. Well, you'll need a kit in there too.

What to put your kit in is another question. Obviously a grocery bag or pillow case isn't going to cut it.

Buying a hard sided or soft sided cases depends on where you plan to use your kit.

For home and car hard side cases work the best. You can bang them around and space is not really an issue. For traveling or the outdoors go with a soft sided bag. It's easier to throw in a backpack and takes up less space. If you need a kit for cycling go for individual plastic zip-lock bags. They take up no space and weight next to nothing.

Below you'll find links to a bunch of first aid kit checklists. Pick the one that meets your needs.

You can also download these files as PDFs if you like.

You will need the free software program Adobe Reader to view these files. You can download that here.

Basic First Aid Checklist
Always a good place to start. A basic first aid kit is the bare minimum you will need to keep you covered. If you're looking for a quick kit to use in your house or if this is your first kit, start here.

Home First Aid Checklist
Just like the basic first aid kit checklist but with a few additions. Because you'll be keeping this kit in your home you can make it a little bigger and more comprehensive.

Baby First Aid Checklist
A few items to see to it that the little munchkins stay safe. This can be used as a stand alone baby kit or better yet added to a basic first aid kit.

Car First Aid Checklist
A must for every car you own. Throw it in the back and earn hero status when your friend burns himself at the next tailgate party and you've got it covered.

ATV First Aid Checklist
For the off-road enthusiast you will need a checklist that goes beyond the basic car list. Have a look here.

Motorcycle First Aid Checklist
If you own a motorcycle you must have one of these. A regular first aid kit won't cut it I'm afraid. Bikers have special needs.

Boating First Aid Checklist
Ok, for boating a first aid kit is crucial. You are away from land and more then likely away from immediate help. If you're spending time in a floating vessel of any kind (and no, bath tubs don't count), then get yourself a kit.

Backpackers First Aid Trail Kit Checklist
A checklist is a great way to keep outdoor adventures fun. Instead of nightmares of blisters, itching, burns and that funny rash that developed after you walked through those woods. Anyone else having summer camp flashbacks?

Wilderness First Aid Kit Checklist
We know you're as at home in the wild as you are on your couch. You can build a shelter out of four leaves and a shoelace, live off protein bars and recite the "leaves of three" law in your sleep. You still need a kit.

Traveling First Aid Checklist
Go ahead! Drink the water, eat the dish with the name you can't pronounce, use the bathroom that once was a storage shed. You've got a first aid kit in your suitcase and nothing is going to ruin your holiday. Enjoy life.

Pet First Aid Checklist
Can there be anything worse then a sick pet? If only they could talk and tell you what was wrong. Ok, maybe talking pets isn't such a good idea, but a first aid kit checklist for your pet is.

Rule of Thumb. No matter what first aid kit checklist you use or what kit you put together always include a good first aid manual in your kit.

Also, print the telephone numbers to your local police, fire department, doctor and poison control center (1-800-222-1222) on a label and affix it to the inside cover of your first-aid kit or laminate it on a card (Kinko's laminates for just a few dollars). That way they are always handy.
