First Aid Treatment
For Minor Head Injuries - Apply ice to the injury.
- Use a pain reliever as needed.
- Keep in mind that discoloration can last up to two weeks.
For Bleeding Head Wounds - Wash your hands with soap and water to prevent infection.
- Apply direct pressure to the wound to control bleeding.
- If the wound is only superficial (affects only the scalp) you can apply an antibiotic ointment and bandage the head.
- If the wound affects the scull in anyway DO NOT attempt to clean or wash the wound. Done incorrectly this can lead to a brain infection.
- Go to your local hospital emergency room if you are unable to stop the bleeding in 15-20 minutes.
For all head injuries go to your local hospital emergency room if... - The patient complains of a headache that cannot be relieved.
